Congrats! Your firm has grown to the point where you’ve decided to hire a part- or full-time marketing person. We’ve talked before about how executing an effective marketing strategy usually requires two different kinds of people, so if you only have one person on your books, you’ll likely need to give them the support they need in order for your firm to find the success they need.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Join Groups
Whether on Facebook or LinkedIn, there are several groups out there full of marketers sharing ideas and experiences they’ve had in their jobs. Some of these groups are even specific to your own industry. Have your marketing person find multiple groups to join and make it an expectation that they spend some time each week having conversations.
2. Get a Coach
There are coaches, consultants, and marketing groups out there that go beyond what you might find on a free social media group. These coaches can offer tailored advice and work more 1-on-1 with your staff to get the strategy right.
3. Supplement with a Vendor
Is your marketing person more analytically minded? Can they spend all day parsing through data but struggle to write a coherent blog post? You may need to supplement their talents with a vendor that can do the other marketing things they don’t do quite well. (Conversely, if your marketing person is uber-creative, you’ll likely need a digital ads vendor of some sort to manage your cold lead gen campaigns).
It’s incredibly rare to find a marketing person who can expertly handle ALL of the various marketing channels your firm has. That’s why it’s important to support and equip them with as many tools as possible to set them up for success.
