3 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Firm’s Blogs

Your firm has a blog. Great job! But are you getting the most out of it? Here are a few quick tips for making sure your blog is as effective as it can be!

Article Length

We get it. You’re a perfectionist. Every sentence needs to be perfect right down to the punctuation. You need to cover every possible if/then scenario so that no stone is left unturned. STOP IT.

Your audience isn’t going to read a 1,500-page novella about anything. Keep it short. Keep it simple. 400-600 words are highly effective and a good length for a blog post. Remember, you only have to keep it surface-level because that’s more than enough for your readers to recognize your expertise.

Posting Frequency

Some SEO companies will post 20 blogs a month for you, but these are often three paragraphs about a current event (that oftentimes isn’t even happening in your geographic market) and are designed solely to try to manipulate search engine algorithms. To put it bluntly, they suck.

You can get a ton of traction out of a monthly blog (we’ll explain how a little later), but biweekly or weekly blogs certainly won’t hurt. Just make sure you’re addressing the questions and concerns your audience has.

How to Promote Them

Let’s take that monthly blog for example. Promote it on social media weekly if you have nothing else to share from your website (even though you should have things like testimonials, lead magnets, and more). At the very least, share it biweekly.

Even more, put that monthly blog in as the featured content of your email newsletter. Send it out to all of your contacts and use the blog’s title as the subject line. This reinforces your message, reminds people of who you are and how you help, and acts as the catalyst for the referrals you deserve.

Pretty simple right? Your blogging strategy doesn’t have to be complicated. Write a short, informative article each month, promote it on social media, and put it in an email newsletter. You’ll be surprised at just how effective it can be.
