Do you love your website? Really think about it. When you type your site’s URL into the browser and land on the home page, does it excite you? Are you filled with a sense of joy and accomplishment? You should be!
Alternatively, if you open your firm’s website and feel annoyed, bored, or completely indifferent, you have a serious problem on your hands.
Whether you want it to be or not, your website is a reflection of you and your firm. In fact, it’s almost as important (if not more so) than your actual, physical office.
That’s because your website generally makes the first impression for many people researching your firm. If your website just looks average (or worse – awful), then it says to the world and everyone who visits: “My firm is just average.”
So how do you build a site that you love? Here are a few things it absolutely must have:
1) A Modern Design
If your website looks like you created it back in the early 2000s, people who visit your site will think that your firm is technologically inept. You don’t need a ton of fancy bells and whistles, but you certainly need a sleek design, captivating imagery, and a layout that provides a great user experience.
2) Clearly Defined Messaging
Go to your website right now. Without scrolling down the page, is it clear what you do? If not, that needs to change. People need to easily understand what you do by simply looking at the home page without having to scroll through blocks of text to make sure they’re in the right place.
3) Plenty of Information
Your practice area pages don’t need to be the length of a short story. No one is going to read all of that. Instead, you can take that information and turn them into blog posts. Shoot videos answering common questions you always get. Provide informational resources, infographics, and other materials to help educate your visitors. It not only provides a better user experience, but it shows people that you’re the expert they need to work with.
Your website provides you with an opportunity to separate yourself from your competitors. Take a look at their websites and compare them to yours. If you feel like your website could be better, give us a call to see how we can help you build something you love.
