Thanksgiving is a few days away, and this week is a great opportunity to pause and reflect on the many things each of us have to be thankful for.
Being thankful isn’t just a nice thing to do, and it’s not just a “personal” thing—it’s also good business. None of us would be where we are by ourselves. Relationships with customers, with employees, with vendors… these are all key to success. Take some time this week to express your gratitude to those that have played a role in your success. For instance…
Customers. At the end of the day, it is your customers that write your paycheck. We all know this, obviously, but it can be easy to forget when you’re in the middle of a hectic week. Make it a point this week to thank your customers for their support and their loyalty. A handwritten note or a personal phone call to a few of your key customers is a great way to show your appreciation.
Vendors and suppliers. Most of us are dependent on a small number of vendors and suppliers in order to keep the business running. Maintaining healthy relationships with these vendors ensures that you will be able to deliver a consistent experience to your customers. So even though you’re paying them, letting them know that you appreciate their hard work and their commitment is always a good idea.
Employees. Stephen Covey urges business owners to “always treat your employees exactly as you want them to treat your customers.” If your employees feel appreciated, fulfilled, and secure, they’re far more likely to treat your customers right. Obviously that doesn’t mean you don’t hold your team to a very high standard, but it’s vital that they feel appreciated. And this week is a perfect opportunity to express your gratitude.
