
When it comes to client acquisition, many lawyers believe that the only ways they get clients is from Google or word of mouth (or sometimes social media). However, there’s a treasure trove of ideal clients waiting for you in a source that many law firms fail to tap into—your email list.
Think about it—who is on your email list? It’s people like:
- Current and past clients
- Other lawyers
- Strategic referral sources
These are the people who know you best. Even if your past clients don’t become repeat clients, ALL of these groups can send you referrals. Even more, they’ll know what kinds of referrals to send your way because they already know exactly how you help others.
The problem is that most law firms don’t tap into their email lists very well. The solution, however, is very simple. You just need to send out a simple email newsletter each month. That newsletter just needs to contain one article or other piece of content that explains a legal problem you help people out with the most.
You don’t need to fill more space with extra announcements, community events, or additional content (though you can if you have the capacity to do so). You definitely don’t need to fill it with extra fluff like recipes or pop culture content.
Send that newsletter out every month and you will be amazed at how many referrals start coming in. And remember—this is likely business you never would have received otherwise because you made yourself top of mind in that situation.
