How to Select the Main Menu Options for Your Law Firm Website

This may be a topic you have not considered closely, but the main menu of your law firm website is prime real estate.  Anyone who visits your site is most likely going to look at your main menu, even if only for a moment. So, you should choose carefully what items you put there. Here are a few tips on how to choose the pages that should be in the main menu of your site.

Communicate What You Do

The main menu of your website should quickly tell someone what areas of law you practice.  This may be as simple as a drop down titled Practice Areas or Services, and then on the drop down you might list off each of your focus areas.  It may also mean splitting them up.  For example, if you are a Family Lawyer, you might have one page in your main menu called “Marital” and another called “Children.”  One would be dedicated to divorce and other marital issues, and the other to child support, custody, and adoption.

Enhance Credibility

It’s important that prospects get the impression that YOU are the right person to help them through their situation.  Clearly communicating what you do is a start, but it is valuable to provide other resources that reinforce your expertise.  This can include pages such as an FAQ, Video Library, Testimonials or a Blog.  Featuring these in your main menu ensures that they will get noticed.

Don’t Overdo It

Sometimes, less is more.  Having a bunch of pages in your main menu does not necessarily mean that a prospect is going to visit them all.  By intentionally featuring the most important pages in your main menu, you can ensure that your visitors are going to see these crucial pages first.

When its comes to law firm internet marketing, it’s important to consider details like this. Don’t overlook the importance of your main menu, and what pages you include in it.
